About

Studio-Session_test-177-EditHi, my name is Kelly Boland. I’m a 27 year old web developer who lives in Toronto, Ontario (CANADA). Most of my interests revolve heavily around technology, from computers in general, to gaming (World of Warcraft, Minecraft, etc.) to developing and playing with new applications and software.

Home Life

I began dating my long-term boyfriend Adam early in high-school and have been dating him ever since (about 15 years now). Adam also has an interest in computers, he is great at custom builds, networking etc. But ultimately decided to study Business Accounting where his true interests lie. We have the cutest dog in the world Appa (named after Nicolodean’s The Last Air Bender) as well as an aquatic turtle named Squirtle (named after the Pok√©mon), who is a kind of a jerk. Adam has been very supportive of my career and my World of Warcraft addiction, and I couldn’t ask for a better family.

My Life with Computers and Programming <3

I’ve had an interest in computers since I was 4 years old and my parents brought home our first computer (running a Windows 3.0 OS. I was so fascinated by the computer that I wanted to know everything it could do and how it was working. I clicked every menu, every button and made sure to explore every single program. And so I continued with every new upgrade to the computer, I learned more and more about them.

While learning Basic, Visual Basic and Java in high-school, my attention shifted towards the internet. I knew that applications would move to be web-based, as it is a universal platform that could be accessed anywhere at any time. So I began teaching myself HTML, JavaScript and PHP. I became the school’s “Web Master” and competed in several programming competitions.

The Niagara College’s Computer Programming had a common first year with the web design program, teaching us basic programming in PHP, C# as well as HTML, CSS, MySql, and even had courses on Business and Project Management. My professors were all very supportive, and I owe so much of my success to them. In my final year of college, I received 3 awards, one being the “Deans Choice of Excellence”.

I was able to get a part-time position at Meridian Reservation Systems during my first year at Niagara College from a reference I received from one of my professors. That position turned into a full-time offer when I graduated, and thus began my career in programming.

What I am up to now

Right now I work for Hive Digital in Project Management, having been promoted from being a Senior PHP Programmer. I still help with developing applications with AngularJS, Laravel Framework, WordPress Framework as well as aiding the OPS team with various tasks.

During my spare time, I work on freelance web-development as well as personal programming projects.

Have I mentioned I LOVE programming?
